About Me:
Hi I’m Xin and now this is just my second year in the UK (I’m originally from China). I’m a researcher but also a great fan of cooking and an instrument player (a traditional Chinese one called Erhu). I love cats a lot. Well, not only cats, just anything fluffy!

Sorry it might disappoint you but to be honest, it takes me such a long time to practice until my English becomes fluent! But actually being able to speak words that is most commonly used in life, plus some jargon related to my field of study should be fine enough for me to survive on my first day. Despite of my awkward speaking at the beginning, I find no problem with communicating with people as long as we are on the same track (maybe because they are just kind!). I have always loved cooking and I’m really good at Chinese and Japanese cuisine. Dumplings are my favourite, and I can make my own ones!

While infected by pathogens (or germs, normally just bacteria or virus but sometimes also parasites), there’s a special structure formed in our body called the germinal centre. It helps generate high-affinity antibodies which will bind (or stick) to the pathogens like a chewing gum and help our body get rid of the harmful, bad germs. With age, this helpful structure shrinks in size and number, which will cause a problem. You definitely don’t like to wake up to this cruel world every morning and find yourself so vulnerable in physical health. I’m trying to figure out what causes the shrinkage of this germinal centre structure with age and if there’s a way to rescue them. When you’re young and healthy that doesn’t seem like a great issue… but we’ll eventually get old, don’t we?

My Typical Day:
7-7:30am- Wake up, brush my teeth and wash my face, get dressed and find I have no time for breakfast
8am or 8:30am- On the bus to my working place, depending on which bus I managed to catch
9am or 9:30am- Snack an energy bar before starting, and kick off the work (usually either experiments or data analysis)
12:00pm (ideally)- Grab lunch from the restaurant at my working place, and on my way back hunt for the cat wandering around the Institute and give her a good massage if I encounter with her.
1:00pm- Back to work, a lot of things to finish in the day
5pm ish (sometimes up to 8pm)- Back home for cooking! Gonna make a big meal.
