I do enjoy my job.
Honestly, one of the best parts is things like this – getting to talk to people about what we do and try to make it understandable. I also like giving presentations, because I like being the center of attention, and answering questions about my work.
My other favorite part is coding; which is a big part of doing work on genetic data. I spend a lot of time writing code to apply models to data, or code that lets other people apply models to their data. Bug-hunting in code is very satisfying – like the feeling when you find the error in a maths problem and then it all drops out nice.
There are bits of the job I don’t like – paperwork, and writing up results as academic papers. I find writing much harder than talking!
