For me it’s both. I enjoy my job itself and I love that I’m able to help be part of the pandemic response and helping people as a result.

I do enjoy it, I do not think that anyone could really progress in a science career without enjoying their subject as it takes a lot of patience and commitment. But the hope is also that your research will be helpful to people too, whether that is from directly discovering something useful or contributing to our understanding of something that will be used by other scientists.

      Hi!
I’d also say its both.. sometimes the parts that we help people with are also not as obvious as lets say if you were a medical doctor. For example my work is developing a method that will be used to understand viruses better.. but the actual helping will only come in when someone finds a new drug using my method.. so if it wasn’t fun it would be very hard to stick with it 😉
