      Our lab first started using the drug around 6 years ago to test for its use in stopping bacteria from infecting heart tissue. We found that the drug successfully works to stop the virus from attaching and infecting cells in 2020. This is because the virus that causes COVID has evolved to have a mutation that allows it to recognize and target new regions of the cell. This means we can find new drug targets for COVID19.
