• Question: If you weren’t a scientist, what job would you be doing and why? Did you know from an early age you wanted to build a career in science? If so what sparked this interest of yours?

I was fairly set on science type careers from high school age I’d say. I was interested in medicine and forensics too (watched a lot of CSI..) but eventually realised I preferred experiments and research.

My other big personal interest is history, so I can imagine an alternate timeline where I pursued a career in something like archaeology or museum research!

I considered being an artist and was quite intrigued by being an archaeologist too (I may have had a slightly inaccurate view of what that means as my expectations were very heavily based on Indiana Jones films). I was a teenager when I decided that psychology may be a good path for me, but I did not realise that being a psychology researcher was an option for me as I did not know any scientists growing up (all the scientists I knew off were beardy old men in white coats on TV). When I was a university student I read this book on how math can be used to understand people and society and realised that it this was something I could see myself doing.

      Hi 🙂
I think I would be a journalist. I really like asking questions and digging up the answers to it, so its kind of similar to science. …but I also wanted to be a baker as a kid because I loved decorating cakes 😉
I set my mind on science at around 12 but that’s probably very early. I just really loved the idea of finding out things that can help cure diseases or make vaccines.
