      Hi Callum :),
I am currently trying to develop a tool that we can use to understand much more quickly what is happening inside the cell with lots of different proteins at once. I hope that I will be able to use this to study viruses. So if there was a new unknown virus that gets people sick we could use my method to understand much more quickly which human proteins and pathways the virus targets and then we have a better idea what drugs we could test to weaken the virus.

My current job is to help sequence the Covid positive cases in the UK, so we are helping to monitor if there any new variants. So we provide the government and SAGE the information they need to make decisions about lockdowns and safety precautions.

My main lab research is trying to understand how your immune system responds to heart attacks. The hope is that if we better understand this then one day we can develop better treatments and save lives.

But I’ve also been doing some COVID research which mainly benefits other scientists and how we do science. I’ve also got some projects looking at the working culture and environment/mental health in academia/science. Again this really mostly benefits other scientists but hopefully if we are all happier and working in better conditions then we will do better science!
