Originally we thought the virus had only 1 main receptor, but could not understand how it was possible that this receptor was found in such low amounts in the lungs (where the virus primarily targets). Also, the virus can be found in some organs that don’t even express this receptor, which does not make much sense — how could it infect an organ when it cant even attach to the cell?

So we discovered that there is actually a new receptor, found in huge amounts across all different kinds of cells. This means we have a new target we can make drugs for, to stop COVID 19 infection.
