Hi 🙂
When I was around 11 or 12 I read a book from the school library about diseases that said ‘In 100 years scientists will have found cures for all diseases known today.’
At the time I thought that was amazing and I wanted to be a part of finding these cures.
Now that I am older and know how complicated science is I have to say the book was probably wrong, but we still have made great progress.
My last year before uni, I took psychology and there I discovered neuroscience, or the science of the brain. I found this fascinating and that’s when I really decided to do science (in the US you don’t need to chose as early and you need to do everything (English, history…) to get into a good uni). From there I got more involved in genetics as well.
Hi, Many different things made me want to study science. I remember visiting the Glasgow Science centre with my school and absolutely loved it! At the same time I was learning about science in school with some great teachers; that is probably what got me really interested in biology. What helped me to make my decision was talking to lots of people doing different jobs, whether at careers fairs, family, friends, teachers and now online via LinkedIn for example.
