Being the only person to know that new thing you’ve just discovered. Until you share and tell everyone you are the only person in history to know that bit of information or to have seen something brand new. It’s an unbeatable feeling!

I just love the idea of learning something that is completely new – being the first in the world to do something. My first proper research experience was a two-month summer project at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden – I had a really great time and this inspired me to pursue a career in science.

      Hi Beth,
When I was about 10 I read a book from the school library about diseases and it said that within 100 years scientists would have found a cure for every disease that exists today. Now that I am a scientist myself I think that the book was a bit too optimistic, but the general concept that we can use science to cure diseases is what got me really excited about it from the start 🙂
