This is a hard question! I do love Alfred Russel Wallace, arguably a much bigger scientist than Charles Darwin, and who may have described evolution first. He is less well known as he didn’t self-promote as much as Darwin! There are some fascinating podcasts and documentaries about him
I’m a great fan of Michael Faraday. He came from very humble beginnings. But his work on electricity and chemistry has led to the modern world. He also started the RI Christmas Lectures : )
Jennifer Doudna is particularly inspirational (and a great science communicator – I saw a lecture by her two years ago and was blown away). She is one of the scientists, and 2020 Nobel prize winners, who discovered CRISPR gene editing which has the potential to revolutionise medicine
